date 2008.12.05

Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) won the USD 7 billion Export Tower on the 45th Trade Day, which was held at the Convention Hall at KOEX, Seoul, on December 2, 2008.

SHI won the export tower thanks to its achievement of USD 7.1653 billion in exports of LNG carriers, cargo ships, and crude oil tankers between July 2007 and June 2008.

SHI also won the USD 3 billion Export Tower in 2004 and the USD 5 billion Export Tower in 2006, and has recorded shipbuilding orders worth USD 20 billion, a world first for a single shipbuilder.

The company has secured world-class technology in the shipbuilding industry, and has been acknowledged as competitive in the global market. The delivery of high-value ships accounted for 84% of SHI’s total revenue, representing USD 17.8 billion.

Notably, for one type of high-value ship, drill ships, SHI holds more than a 70% share of the global market.

Trade Day is an annual event hosted by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy to facilitate the balanced development of trade. The awards ceremony is held to present export towers to executives and companies that have contributed to the opening of overseas markets and the increasing of exports.
