HSE Ksss

Application of KSSS Endorsed by Clients and Three Major Korean Shipbuilders
SHI is taking the lead in adopting the Korean Shipyard Safety Standardization (KSSS) to ensure workers clearly understand different safety regulations per ship owner and to elevate and standardize shipyard safety regulations. Based on the consensus reached by ship owners and major Korean shipbuilders, the KSSS covers seven sectors: scaffolding, working at height, confined space entry, permit to work, lifting/rigging/hoisting, training and general safety management. SHI has formed a designated organization in charge of safety and production in every division to perform self-directed assessments and prepare for application of new regulations. Since May 2018, SHI has adopted 98.1% of the mandatory KSSS requirements across the board. SHI pursues and openly embraces not only the Occupational Safety and Health Act but also internationally recognized safety standards in order to further improve the safety of every worker working in the yard. KSSS members, including ship owners, conduct on-site inspection at the domestic shipyards to check the compliance with the KSSS and identify best practices. SHI was the first Korean shipbuilder to receive this inspection in April 2019. As a role model in the KSSS application, we are committed to maintaining the highest level of safety practices.
