Samsung Heavy Industries launched its wind Energy business, which is now in active operation based on its world-class technology set in shipbuilding acquired from its shipbuilding business. Using the know-how accumulated through its shipbuilding operations for decades, the company is applying technological excellence to blades, the core parts for wind power generators, as well as the motors and the control systems that determine the performance of generators. The company is also creating synergism in the facility installations of wind power generators by using the skills it has developed through its construction business, which has successfully completed large-scaled civil engineering and plant construction projects.
Samsung Heavy Industries’ line-up of wind power generators consist of the standard 2.5MW-class wind power generators for in-land applications, generators for cold temperatures, and the 7MW-class wind power generators for offshore applications. Its wind power generators are gaining the attention of global power generation businesses with power generation efficiency that is over 10% higher than competitors and lifecycles that are five years longer or more than rivaling products.
Samsung Heavy Industries is already highly recognized for its high commercial operation rate of over 97% by installing 2.5MW-class wind power generators for in-land applications in Yeongheung, Korea as well as in the U.S. and Canada. The company has perfectly responded to customer needs by developing customized wind power generators, such as generators for low velocity and cold temperatures.
Starting with its recent participation in development of the offshore wind power mill in Scotland, Samsung Heavy Industries has grown into a total offshore wind power solution provider of which the scope of services encompass the development of offshore wind power generation complexes, construction, installations, and complex operation.
The company has also introduced a new paradigm in the offshore wind power generation sector by being the first in the industry to build wind power generator carriers.
Samsung Heavy Industries is operating sales offices, engineering & design centers, production plants, logistics bases, and after-sales service centers at various global sites, including the U.S. and Europe. It plans to further expand its presence in the global market so that its operations, production, installations, and after-sales services can be provided anywhere.
Samsung Heavy Industries will develop and produce various products, including 2.5MW-class generators for in-land applications, 2.3MW-class generators, 2.7MW-class generators, and 7MW-class generators for offshore applications. At this rate, it will become one of the world’s top five companies by 2020, while fulfilling its responsibilities as a global leader in the wind power sector.
